Wife, Mother, Aunt, Oma,
Great Aunt, Friend
Deborah, known by Debbie, was born on January 10th (a lady never tells her true age) in Philadelphia. She met her husband John Huffman “years” ago in Midland Texas while serving in the US army. She had twin boys, Johnny and Michael, and a little girl, Stephanie. Although she purchased two other homes in her lifetime thus far, many will know Debbie from from the neighborhood where her “forever home” was located on Westwood Drive. She lived there HAPPILY for over 30 years. Debbie has many grandchildren whom she loves spending time with. They affectionately refer to her as Oma. She is also a beloved Great- Aunt! She is the fun, outgoing, secret keeper. Debbie keeps close, life-long friends: Mary Beth who she has known since first grade, Carol since eighth grade, along with Susan and Jackie since ninth grade.
After graduating Highland High school and attending nursing school, Debbie had a successful, impactful and meaningful career as a nurse. Working as a traveling nurse with Holy Redeemer was the best job she ever had and she positively impacted the life of several of her patients. She used a lot of skills that she learned in the Army to forge a path for herself from the ground up in nursing. Many know her as the “wound care queen”. She was such a shining light that on one occasion she was asked to be on the front cover or a national nursing magazine, which she politely declined. Unfortunately, Debbie was forced into retirement, to her dismay, due to Multiple Sclerosis (MS). Despite this unfortunate diagnosis, she lives a full life and a large piece of her pie toward “beating” this disease is living an active and engaging life. An example of this is one of her favorite past times- throwing a tube in the Deleware River and floating down it with friends.
One of Debbie’s lifetime goals will be to prove carbon dating is WRONG! She is an advocate for proper medication labeling, and feels the US FDA has failed on many levels with their lack of transparency regarding medication side effects. Debbie is very passionate on this issue as she has been a victim of similar negligence.
Debbie is worldly and fascinated by all different regions, cultures, and people. She is interested in learning and connecting with all different types of people. Her gift of gab has been a bridge to forging new and meaningful relations. Many joke that one day at Debbies funeral (in the farrrrrrr future) she will have a priest, rabbi, buddhist monk, and imam present to send her off (haha).
A dream trip for Debbie would be sleeping in a hut over the water in ….. you guessed it … BALI! Another dream would be to see a play on Broadway in New York City. She would love to one day be able to cook a dish or meal that “she” is known for within her family. She is still searching for that dish or perfect recipe- so any ideas would be amazing!
Debbie loves reading a REALLY good book. She has a knack for decorating and is always willing to give a sharp eye and skillful hand toward decorating. She is the queen of finding a good deal, whether that be at an auction, yard sale, or an estate sale. She is known to frequent the GoodWill and is on a first name basis there with the staff. If you have a question about jewelry- Debbie is your girl. She is known for having the most stylish gem stones and unique pieces of jewelry that you can’t find at the generic mall boutique.
Debbie has a kind and caring heart and goes out of her way to help anyone. She is loved and admired by many!
*You guessed it - this biography was not written by Debbie as she is far too humble for all these kind, yet true adjectives*
